L-Glutamine is an amino acid that plays a key role in the metabolism, structure, and function of the entire gastrointestinal tract (GI) tract and its immune system. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. They are vital for many physiological functions such as protein synthesis, tissue repair,
and nutrient absorption. Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid
found in the blood and is a vehicle for nitrogen transport.
Functions of Glutamine:
• Synthesis of nucleotides (building block of DNA)
• Synthesis of proteins
• Synthesis of amino sugars
• Carry ammonia to the kidneys for excretion – excretion helps maintain a
normal acid-base balance
• Energy source for immune cells – immune cells within the GI tract and
liver use glutamine as a nitrogen donor and energy source
• Helps maintain intestinal permeability
Ask your doctor or pharmacist if L-Glutamine is right for you.
